An American journalist journeys to Japan to search for the woman he left there years earlier. He eventually arrives at an island with prostitutes who cater to the lowest of clientèle. Forced to choose a companion for the night, he picks a girl with a horribly scarred face (Youki Kudoh). Over the course of the next few hours she weaves a tale of her shady past which includes the fate of his former lover, with each version of her story getting more gruesome and consequently closer to the horrific truth.
